Deep within the heart of our mountains, where danger dances hidden in darkness and mystery, have always lain treasured and coveted veins: the secret gateway to a new and better life.

Each ancient strike of the pickaxe, every sigh, every desperate attempt by the miner to extract his glowing light, has kept the clock of the duende ticking— that indomitable Lord; that jealous guardian of La Unión’s ancient, young, and enduring history. Crushing the depths, he has swept through its ravines, transmuting, almost by chance, the lives of hundreds of children and workers.
The cries of pain and passion, the absolute protagonists whispering from the mine, remain embedded in the vein of light that emanates from the deep mining songs (cante jondo), reflecting humanity’s resilience in the face of adversity. The singers paint the hard and perilous work of the mines on flamenco’s canvas with voices born from the depths, confronting us with our fragile humanity.

In the dance of light and shadow, in the clash of pickaxe and guitar, mine and song intertwine with an invisible yet powerful thread, crafting a rugged world where the duende finds refuge and freedom, uplifting the souls of miners and singers alike, and capturing those who witness it.

Lidó Rico transcends the physical identity of our miners, presenting an invisible mirror of trauma and memory where we incredulously discover a new reflection of our bodies and skins — landscapes of emotional tension rooted in the eternal human condition.

Using his head and hands trapped and fused in resin or glass as chisels of emotional autopsy, this brilliant artist reveals through fragmented and distorted figures locked in endless struggle the fragility of miners’ lives trapped in a harsh, overwhelming reality — an infinite dance between the human, the inevitable, and the inert.

The infinite echo of his work fights to preserve the memory of those ancestors who forged La Unión’s unique, unfathomable mining identity through emotional wear, backbreaking toil, and invisible scars upon their souls, transforming the art of personal sensitivity into a universal connector and a powerful collective voice of human fragility.
